Fast Food Should be Banned

Fast food has become a prominent issue nowadays. Fast food is said to be the factor leading to many diseases, but fast food industries still increasingly grow in the United States. In response to the factors leading to these diseases, I really believe that fast food should be banned for several reasons. For one thing, fast food should be banned because it contains too high calories in food. The calories are made from soy, fat, sugar, oil, and salt, which cause obesity. The main ingredients in fast food(a burger for example) area pair of buns, fried meat, a slice of cheese, a slice of tomato and a piece of lettuce. There is only a small amount of vegetables and fruits in fast food. In addition, by banning fast food, it will provide higher nutrient value in food. The body needs a number of balanced nutrients such as carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins as well as fats and proteins for the digestive system, but fast food has only a large concentration of fat and protein. The nutrients of fast food are not well-balanced. For instance, a glazed chocolate donut can contain a lot of sugar and fat, even though it also contains small amounts of carbohydrates. Next, as the major contributor of addictive and unhealthy food, fast food needs to be banned. Fast food, which contains synthetic colors and flavors, is very attractive. It is easy to become addicted to fast food. For example, Michael, who works in the biggest mall in New York, orders pizza and French fries almost every day because he likes the color combination in a pizza and the taste in French fries. In the United States, there are 160,000 fast food restaurants(www.statisticbrain.com, 20 April 2013). That number can increase every year because many companies offer franchises around the United States. However, many people maintain that fast food is easy on the pocket. Nonetheless, I believe that cooking healthier food is cheaper than buying fast food. For example, the total cost of roasting a chicken is about $8, but buying a fried chicken at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) costs $11. Therefore, if the federal government banned fast food in this country, many people might try to make healthier food on their own or go to a healthy restaurant. In conclusion, fast food is harmful for the body. Truly, I emphasize fast food should be prohibited by the federal government.
